NUESTRO HUERTO ESCOLAR: Taller navidad sostenible

Hoy hemos desarrollado dos actividades enmarcadas bajo el tema “navidades Sostenibles” con las que pretendimos concienciar a los más pequeños de cómo pasar unas navidades más solidarias y ecológicas. Today we carried out two "Sustainable Christmas" activities where we tried to raise awareness of how to spend a more solidary and eco-friendly Festive Period.

Contentos de saber que esta Navidad sera mas sostenible!

Las actividades se desarrollaron con los grupos de 3o y 4o de Primaria. Por un lado explicamos en qué consistía lo de las “navidades sostenibles” en una amena charla en las que solicitamos que cada uno de los niños escribiera sobre una cartulina de colores qué ideas daría para pasar unas navidades sostenibles.
The activities took place with the Year 3 and 4 Primary students. We started by explaining what a "Sustinable Christmas" was and continued by asking each child to write their ideas of how to enjoy a more sustainable Christmas.

Por otro, se realizó un árbol de navidades de cartón que se pintó con pintura verde. Una vez terminado el árbol, cada niño colgó la cartulina realizada con sus intenciones de concienciación medioambiental. Nuestro árbol de “soluciones sostenibles” se instaló en el hall del colegio durante todas las Navidades.
We then created a big Christmas Tree from recycled cardboard which we painted green. Once the tree was finished, the children hung their Sustainable Christmas Ideas and Wishes. Our "Sustainable Solutions" tree stayed in the School Entrance Hall during the whole festive season.

¿Que significa sostenible? What Does Sustainable Mean?

Sostenible es la palabra con la que describimos algo que usa los menos recursos externos posibles. Se trata de utilizar materiales reciclados y gastar lo menos los recursos naturales como el agua, la energía o el papel que extraemos de los árboles por ejemplo.

Sustainable is the word that describes something that uses the least amount of external resources possible. It's about using recycled materials and not waster natural resources such as water, energy or paper that comes from trees for example.

How Could we have a more Sustainable Christmas?

Tenemos un montón de ideas! hay muchas sugerencias:
We have so many ideas! Here are some suggestions:

Tener cuidado de dejar luces encendidas y no gastar demasiada energía durante las fiestas	Try not to leave lights switched on or waste too much electricity during the festive period!
Es preferible fabricar nosotros mismos la decoración navideña con materiales reciclados como papel usado o de revistas en lugar de comprar decoraciones de plástico que usan materiales contaminantes para fabricarlos.	It's much better to make our own decorations with recycled materials like used paper or magazines instead of buying plastic decorations which can be produced with toxic materials.
Ayudar a mamá o a papá con la compra llevando bolsas de tela para evitar bolsas de plástico!	Help mum or dad with the shopping taking cloth bags to avoid being given more plastic bags!
Hacer comida juntos en vez de comprar cosas ya hechas y prefabricadas, fijándonos de donde provienen los alimentos - lo más cercano es mejor porque no usan mucha gasolina para el transporte y ayudamos a los productores más locales.	Enjoy preparing meals together instead of buying them ready made, and look out for where the food has come from - the closer the better because they don't use up much petrol for transport and it helps local producers!
Intentar no ver demasiado la tele o jugar con móviles- mejor jugar a un juego en familia o invitar a los amigos y así bajamos el consumo de energía. Además, en cuanto mas gente haya en casa, menos necesidad de encender la calefacción.	Try not to watch too much TV or play with phones - it's better to play a game with family or invite your friends. Additionally, the more people there are at home, the warmer it gets so you can turn down the heating!
En lugar de pedir y comprar regalos, podemos hacer regalos nosotros mismos o dar amor y un dibujo!	Instead of asking for and buying presents, we can make them ourselves or give love and a picture!
Podemos pedir que den comida a los que no tienen!	We can ask that they give food to those who are hungry.

Nos dividimos en dos grupos por turnos: Unos rodeando mesas para escribir sus deseos para una Navidad más sostenible en cartelitos.
We divided into two groups and then switched: Some sat around the table writing their wished for a more sustainble Christmas.

Y los otros a cortar y pintar unos arbolitos de navidad de cartón reciclado con la ayuda de los padres del Huerto. Los cartelitos se cortaran y se usarán para decorar el árbol de Navidad.
The others cut and painted some little Christmas trees from recycled cardboard with the help of some parents. The little cards holding the wishes will be hung from the Christmas Tree.
